In just five years, Franklin Square has become one of most popular attractions in Philadelphia. With Square burger(Stephen Starr‘s burger stand), the carousel, the Philly themed mini-golf course and all the other fun activities at Franklin Square, it’s easy to see why. But now the park is adding a new attraction- a 100 seat pavilion, perfectly suited for year round events. The new structure will also be available for parties and other occasions. It’s a welcome addition to one of the best parks in the city!

From www.uwishunu.com, the ten most popular restaurants in Philadelphia according to www.opentable.com. Stephen Starr‘s Buddakan took the top spot, with Chima Brazilian Steakhouse and Parc rounding out the top three. Not surprisingly all ten restaurants are located in Center City, Old City or Rittenhouse Square. Not to take away anything from the restaurants listed, but one thing I learned from real estate, which holds true in the restaurant biz, it’s all about location. As good as these restaurants are, they are obviously more popular because of their central location, as opposed to a restaurant tucked away in the Art Museum area or Fishtown.
Then again, these restaurants are not ranked on food or ambience, but instead their popularity on www.opentable, so excuse my mini-rant. Either way, with our new offices here on Rittenhouse Square, it’s exciting to be so close to some of the most popular restaurants in the city!

Parc, Rittenhouse Square
600 N. Broad street, the former site of a Wilkie Buick Auto dealership, will be transformed into a mixed use development site, featuring roughly 100 rental apartments and 39,000 square feet of commercial space. Mayor Michael Nutter was on hand for the groundbreaking which took place yesterday, 2/8. Three local restauranteurs, Stephen Starr, Marc Vetri and Joe Volpe have already signed on, with Starr and Vetri opening new restaurants on North Broad and Volpe opening a catering venue. Stephen Starr’s restaurant will be called Route 6, a seafood restaurant. Vetri will be opening an upscale beer bar named Birerria 600. An open air courtyard will separate the two restaurants.
The redevelopment of North Broad Street all started with Lofts 640 at 640 N Broad street, an upscale apartment building. Lofts 640 is also home to Osteria, an Italian restaurant open by Marc Vetri. This is really exciting news for both the underdeveloped North Broad area and the popular Fairmount neighborhood. And when you combine this news with the Lenfest Plaza groundbreaking last week, North Broad is going to be a very popular place to be this Fall.
