4 Tips for Selling Your House in a Down Market

Times are tough all over. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a good time to sell your home. It is still possible to get a great deal on your home, even in this difficult real estate market. So with that being said, here are a few helpful hints for the best ways to sell your home in this, or any type of real estate market.

  1. Spend Money – Make Money. We know how difficult it is to spend money these days. Everyone’s tightening their belts and trying to stay above water, but if you’re going to sell your home and there’s still some improvements that need to get done, make sure they’re completed before you hit the market. Thinking about replacing appliances or fixing some leaky pipes? Get it done right away. You should also consider getting a home inspection before you put up the for sale sign. It will cost you a lot less to fix the issue now rather than if the potential buyer finds it first.
  2. Be Proactive. A bad real estate market doesn’t mean that you cannot sell your home, it just means you’ll have to work a little bit harder to get it done. Think about the presentation of your home. Most likely you’re going to try selling your house online, so make sure the photos you use are top notch. Nothing blurry or out of focus, and nothing from last year’s Christmas party. Just simple, clean shots showcasing the house’s best features. If you don’t have time for all this, the safe bet is working with a real estate agent to help you sell. They will usually have a dedicated marketing team who understand the most effective ways to present your home and get your listing in front of the right people.
  3. Now is the Time to Sell. The Winter is by far the best time to sell your home. The market is always busiest in the Summer, so if you want to sell with less competition, now is the time do it. If you’re considering selling, get your house on the market right away.
  4. Be There For Potential Buyers. You need to make time for potential showings of your home, as well as discussing prices, and answering questions about issues like schools or the neighborhood. This is tough because a lot of home sellers, between work, family or other responsibilities, they are unable to be as available as they need to be. This is where a real estate agent can help. A real estate agent is dedicated to selling your home and understands the market, and the best way to present your home. In the long run, selling your home through a real estate agent is a much better option than doing it on your own.
